The Amherst 60" kitchen island looks great in my kitchen. I selected the rye oak finish in hope it would match my range hood and it does! Large surface area and plenty of storage, even fits my trash can. Just what I needed!

Finsh is a CHEAP latex laquer finish. Had to hire my painter to put on a proper finish. If the wood is hit the slightest with anything, it will get a nick in it. Mine did within 2 days. The wood is nowhere as nice as is shown in the ad. The island sits level with the floor. You must be very carefull not to get water or floor cleaning product on it as it will damage the wood.

This was a great kitchen island that fit right into my modern Japandi space - however on the finish, its a little rough in areas such as the veneer. I also found a dent in the inside of one of the doors. I expected a more polished piece for this price point but it was still worth the purchase.

Poor quality. The show room piece looks drastically different than delivered item. The countertop and base does not align, as well as cheap overall finish with visible wood putty.

The island is well constructed and the walnut is beautiful; the front and sides are solid walnut, while the rest is veneer (you can see that only when removing the top - there is no visible difference between solid wood and veneer). There were a few issues with the finish (minor dents, small discolorations) that a service technician from Room & Board fixed. The island provides enough storage options and is great for food prep or serving appetizers. However, the top two drawers are a bit small (in terms of their height) - they hold 'standard' flatware trays, but if cutlery is not placed perfectly and just peeks out a bit, the drawers will catch them and not close. The overall height of the island is approx. 0.5" smaller than stated - so I had to raise mine to make it even with the rest of the kitchen counter tops. Like with other items from Room&Board, the countertop is only resting on top of the wood construction and is not fixed (that's not an issue, though, but more of an advantage!); from an article point of view, it's two separate inventory items - one for the top, one for the frame/island - that are ordered together. I've returned the top itself, since the color was not as expected and not the same as the samples I ordered or the samples I they have in store - this (together with the overall height) was important to me since I'm not using it as a standalone island, but as an extension of my current countertops; I'm planning to get a different top from a third party that better fits the rest of the kitchen. #sweepstakes
